Kawartha Woodturners Guild

The following is the format for the June 2010 Year End Competition:
 

Categories

  • Bowls & Platters e.g. side grain turning

  • Hollow Forms e.g. end grain vessels

  • Spindle Turning e.g. any end grain turning done solely between centres (one or both ends may be a chuck)

  • Lidded Box e. g. any hollow form with a lid

 

 

Other Categories

  • Innovative e. g. no restrictions, other than the work is predominantly done
    using a lathe. These entries do not qualify for the Best of Show
    and it is open to any skill level.

  • Best of Show: This is a ribbon for the most outstanding entry from all the
    competition except from the innovative entries.

 

 

Skill Levels

  • Novice:  A turner who has won less than a total of three first, second or third
    place ribbons in guild or other competition. Any Novice turner who has a
    best in show in guild or other competition will automatically be
    boosted to the experienced level.
    Novice turners will compete in all six categories. If there are fewer than 4
    entries in any category, the judges will combine two (or more) categories to
    ensure that there are a minimum of 4 entries competing for first, second
    and third places.

  • Experienced:  A turner who has won a total of three or more first, second or
    third place ribbons in guild or other competitions. Any experienced turner
    who has won two best in show ribbons in guild or other competition will
    automatically be boosted to the master skill level. Experienced turners will
    compete in all six categories. If there are fewer than 4 entries in any
    category, the judges will combine two or more categories to ensure that
    there are a minimum of 4 entries competing for first, second and third place.

  • Master:  A turner who has won a total of six or more first, second or third
    place ribbons. Master turners will compete in only one open category, so that
    all entries will be in one combined competition.
    Note: Skill levels will be determined by the honesty of participants entering the competition.

 

Spouses Competition

  Open Competition - Each member is allowed to bring one entry only to be judged by the spouses of the KWG members.
